Founded in 1976, the year of our country’s bi-centennial, the aptly named “Yankee Doodle, Inc.” seemed perfect to Sam and Claudia Halsey. Connecticut’s state song, Yankee Doodle has nearby origins dating back to the French and Indian War when a regiment of Norwalkers reported to the British regulars wearing plumes in their hats given to them by local women before they left home. When they arrived in New York the Brit’s mocked them a bit adding the words “stuck a feather in his cap” to the popular tune. Who knows, they may have marched right past the ground where today’s Hearth Store stands on their way to meet the British army.
This hearth store was a second career for Sam who had worked many years in his father’s equipment sales business. Now instead of spending many weeks on the road visiting clients, Sam worked building a local icon that has attracted local customers to visit their store in Wilton, CT. If you live near Wilton in Fairfield County and you haven’t met the Halsey’s, you must have just moved in! They are somewhat of an “institution” when it comes to anything to do with fireplaces or stoves in Southeast CT and Westchester County NY.
Sam and Claudia both love people and enjoy a business that has allowed them to meet so many wonderful families over decades of operation of Yankee Doodle Inc. Stove & Fireplace. The store has moved around just a bit but never out of their hometown of Wilton. The store is hard to miss if you make the scenic drive on Rt 7 between Norwalk and Danbury. The long cedar sided building is well marked with their name and proudly displays an American flag right at the entrance. The interior has been completely remodeled to display all types of stoves, fireplaces, inserts and accessories. Many of the displays are set up to burn so you can see the units in action.
The Halsey’s know how to deliver personal service that customers remember. That is what keeps them coming back to Yankee Doodle. Stop by the showroom and see for yourself why people come from a wide area to work with Sam and Claudia. Or if you really are not sure how your fireplace or stove ideas might work in your particular home, just call and ask for Sam – he is happy to visit your home and make recommendations to help you decide on the best solution to fit your needs.
